Ayana Dakshinayana Beginning with ‘Karka Sankranti’ each year, this phase marks the Sun’s movement toward the South. During this period, the daylight (Dinmaan) gradually decreases while the night hours (Raatrimaan) increase. The sunrise point shifts from North-East toward South-East. This interval transitions through the seasons of Varsha (Monsoon), Sharad (Autumn), and Hemant (Pre-Winter), providing a highly reflective and restorative atmosphere.

Vedic Wisdom

Understanding the 5 Pillars of Vedic Panchang

The word Panchang is derived from Sanskrit: Pancha (Five) + Anga (Limbs). Aligning important actions with these cosmic vibrations brings harmony and success.

1. Tithi (Lunar Day)

A Tithi represents the longitudinal angle between the Sun and Moon increasing by 12°. There are 30 Tithis in a lunar month divided into Shukla Paksha (Waxing) and Krishna Paksha (Waning). Each Tithi governs specific emotional and spiritual energies.

2. Nakshatra (Lunar Mansion)

The ecliptic is divided into 27 Nakshatras of 13°20' each. The Nakshatra occupied by the Moon at any given moment deeply influences mental disposition, travel auspiciousness, and ceremony outcomes.

3. Yoga (Luni-Solar Harmony)

Yoga is calculated by adding the celestial longitudes of the Sun and Moon divided into 27 parts. Auspicious Yogas like Sarvartha Siddhi, Amrit Siddhi, and Sobhana enhance success in auspicious undertakings.

4. Karana (Half Tithi)

A Karana is exactly half of a Tithi (6° separation). There are 11 Karanas (4 fixed, 7 movable). Karanas help determine specific micro-windows for financial, medical, or construction tasks.

5. Vaar (Solar Weekday)

The day of the week ruled by the planetary lord from local sunrise to next sunrise (Ravivaar = Sun, Somvaar = Moon, Mangalvaar = Mars, Budhvaar = Mercury, Guruvaar = Jupiter, Shukravaar = Venus, Shanivaar = Saturn).

Why Rahu Kaal is Avoided

Rahu Kaal is a 90-minute daily period ruled by the shadow planet Rahu. It is strictly avoided for starting new businesses, signing contracts, marriage ceremonies, or property registrations to prevent unforeseen obstacles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Daily Panchang FAQs

Common queries regarding Hindu calendar timings, auspicious Muhurats, and Panchang calculation methods.

Drik Panchang calculations are based on exact observable sidereal planetary coordinates (Chitrapaksha / Lahiri Ayanamsha) verified by modern astronomical observations (NASA/JPL Ephemeris). Traditional Surya Siddhanta uses classical mean motion algorithms without contemporary observational corrections. Astrology Divine uses high-precision Drik algorithms for accurate local sunrise and muhurat timings.

Abhijit Muhurat is the 8th Muhurta of the day occurring roughly around local solar noon (approx 24 minutes before and 24 minutes after mid-day). Blessed by Lord Vishnu, it has the unique power to neutralize numerous minor astrological afflictions and is ideal for starting journeys, ceremonies, and investments (except on Wednesdays).

In Vedic astrology, a day begins at local sunrise rather than midnight. Because geographic latitude, longitude, and elevation determine the exact moment the Sun's upper limb crosses the local horizon, Panchang elements, Rahu Kaal, and Chaughadiyas shift by several minutes between different cities.

Purnimanta calendar ends the lunar month on Purnima (Full Moon day) and is predominantly followed in North Indian states (Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, MP, Punjab). Amanta calendar ends the month on Amavasya (New Moon day) and is followed in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.

Traveling in the Disha Shool direction is astrologically discouraged. However, if unavoidable, traditional Vedic remedies suggest consuming specific items before departure: Sunday (Ghee/Paan), Monday (Look in Mirror/Drink Milk), Tuesday (Jaggery/Coriander), Wednesday (Sesame seeds/Jaggery), Thursday (Curd/Mustard), Friday (Curd/Barley), Saturday (Ginger/Mustard Oil).
