Brahmarshi Vishwamitra was the one who initially received the Gayatri Mantra.The worship of the Sun God is the fundamental meaning of the Gayatri mantra. The Vedas state that the Gayatri Mantra should be said while facing the sun at both dawn and sunset. Three times a day, in the morning, noon, and evening, the Gayatri Mantra can be repeated. It is devoted to Lord Brahma in the morning and is known as Gayatri; to Lord Vishnu in the midday and known as Savitri; and to Lord Shiva in the evening and is known as Saraswati. Mata Veda The deity of the Gayatri Mantra is thought to be Gayatri Devi. She is a manifestation of Saraswati, a goddess of learning who bestowed the four Vedas. Gayatri Devi is depicted sitting on a red lotus, which symbolizes riches. She is accompanied by a white swan, which stands for purity. She is also holding a book, which stands for knowledge, and a remedy, which stands for health. She is depicted as having five heads, which stand for the "Panch Prana" or five senses. The Sun is the object of the Gayatri Mantra. It is believed that the Sun is Savitur, the Creator. The Gayatri mantra is a prayer to the Sun, the source of all light and life, asking for wisdom in all things and the awakening of consciousness. The Savitur the Sun is propelled by Savita, i.e. Gayatri.
